C++ Standards Committee Meeting
Nov. 3-8, 2014 - University of Illinois at Urbana, Champaign
The Fall 2014 C++ Standards Committee Meeting will be held on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Hosts for the meeting are the U of I Department of Computer Science and the Parallel Computing Institute.
Meetings will be held in the Thomas M. Siebel Center for Computer Science and the Coordinated Science Laboratory, both conveniently located just a few blocks from either conference hotel and across the street from each other.
Blocks of rooms are being held until October 1, 2014 at both the Hampton Inn Urbana and the Illini Union Hotel under “C++ Standards Conference.” You may make reservations directly with whichever hotel you choose. Direct links to the hotels are available on the conference website.
The Illinois campus is readily accessible to visitors by car, plane, train, or bus.
The University of Illinois’ Willard Airport is five miles south of Champaign just off US 45. American Airlines links the community to major hubs across the U.S. where passengers can make connections. This is the recommended airport for conference attendees.
Amtrak provides daily rail passenger service to and from Chicago. Greyhound, Trailways and Illini Swallow provide national and regional bus service.
Driving from Chicago’s O’Hare (ORD) or Midway (MDW) airports, Lambert-St. Louis International Airport (STL), Indianapolis International Airport (IND) or the Bloomington-Normal Regional Airport (BMI) is also a convenient way to arrive on campus. Driving directions are available at the Illinois.edu website under the maps tab.
The C-U Mass Transit District -www.cumtd.com - runs an extensive line of busses through campus and into the community for moving around town. Car rental is available at the airport upon arrival. A list of taxis will be available on the conference website.
Parking on the Illinois campus is limited. If you are staying at one of the conference hotels you should plan to leave your car at the hotel (free!) and walk to the conference venue. The Hampton is 1 ½ blocks from the Siebel Center and the Illini Union is 3 blocks away.
There are parking meters available in the parking deck B4 or Lot B1on the Campus Parking Office map (link below). Rates are $1/hour - bring quarters, or you can set up a pay by phone account at https://paybyphone.com/ and pay for your meter each day electronically.
Scratch off hang tags valid for one day at any meter with a Block I Sticker are available for $12/day at the Campus Parking Office. If you want to buy enough for your entire visit plan to stop into their office first thing Monday morning.
The average daytime temperature in Champaign-Urbana during the month of November runs in the upper 40’s with nighttime temperatures dipping into the low 30’s. Rain or light snow can be expected.
All conference venues and hotels offer access to free wireless internet. The meeting rooms also allow access via Eduroam.
