Harnessing Stream Processors for Streaming Video: Building a Company on Massively Parallel Processing

ABSTRACT: Elemental Technologies is the leading provider of massively parallel processing solutions for video applications. Using off-the-shelf, programmable graphics processing units (GPUs), Elemental's RapiHDT Video Platform is ideally suited for a variety of video applications including consumer media processing, professional video editing, and Internet video processing. This talk will provide a high-level overview of how Elemental's software takes advantage of heterogeneous computing architectures for video processing, as well as providing some history of the company and the challenges around building a company in today's economy.
BIO: As CEO, Chairman, and Co-Founder of Elemental Technologies, Sam Blackman brings extensive management experience and video processing expertise to the ETI team. Prior to co-founding Elemental in 2006, Samuel specified and architected next-generation products as an IC Design Manager for Pixelworks, a fabless semiconductor company making display processors. Prior to joining Pixelworks in 2000, Samuel held engineering positions at Silicon Graphics and Intel Corporation. Mr. Blackman holds an M.B.A. from the University of Oregon, an M.S.E.E. from the University of California at Berkeley, and a B.S.E.E. from Brown University in Providence, RI. He was a Regional Qualifier for the White House Fellows Program in 2006.
